Comparative

A type of Color Task, where an individual must compare two colors and determine if they are the same or different. Examples include:

  • Mixing paint to match a reference color
  • Relating a line in a graph to the same color in a legend
  • Sorting objects by color

These color tasks can be quite hard for the colorblind due to Colors of Confusion. Colors that may appear distinct to a color normal can be metamers to a colorblind person’s visual system.

Likewise, the tasks can also be difficult for hypothetical tetrachromats, since colors that are metameric to color normal can be distinct to them. However, if a tetrachromat finds colors to match, then they will also always match for trichromats.
