Simulation

An alteration of an image that tries to convey what colorblind vision is like.

Because color vision is a Qualia, it can not be fully accurate to “show what colorblind people see”. However, Simulations are very useful at conveying the Colors of Confusion and the difficulties of seeing a smaller color Gamut.

Simulations generally work by compressing the Gamut of an image parallel to the Confusion Lines for the type of CVD being simulated.

CVSimulator (android/iOS) is a phone based app that applies a color transformation to the real time image from a phone camera in order to simulate CVD. Pilestone’s website offers a simulator for uploaded images.

A LUT is often used to store than mathematical transformation of a CVD simulation.
