Protan
The “first” type of Colorblindness (before Deutan and Tritan) that acts as an umbrella term for Protanomaly and Protanopia. Protan CVD is associated with the L-Cone and affects the red-green Opponent Channel (generally a weakening of the red stimulation).
Protan defects are almost always Congenital and arise from mutations of the gene for the L-Opsin, either by shifting the Peak Wavelength lower (creating an L*-Opsin), or by rendering it inoperable.
The Colors of Confusion for Protans are:
- Red / Orange / Yellow / Green / Brown
- Cyan / White
- Blue / Purple
- Dark Red / Black
- Pink / Gray
A Protan is also an individual who has a Protan defect.
